Reflection on puzzle complexity and tool selection

Another solve from Cracking the Cryptic.

It's funny, of the extended Sudoku puzzles they solve on the channel, I most enjoy the ones where only numeral pencil marks are needed. Most of the puzzles that require shading regions of "number classes" quickly invoke the "reach for a programming language" instincts in me. I've been trained well I guess, to reach for an effective tool once I sense that a problem involves structure that's difficult to carry in your head.
