Houses Under a Mackerel Sky

Upwards and outwards.

An octagonal corner tower of a Queen Anne house, topped with a conical wood-shingle roof. The tower has slate-blue shingle siding, cream trim, and white-framed windows catching low golden sunlight. Leafy green branches frame the foreground against a blue sky streaked with thin clouds.

A rose-red Victorian house with a steep front gable and an arched attic window, partly screened by tall trees. Evening sun dapples the shingled facade. Stone steps climb through dense green hedges toward a covered porch, beneath a clear blue sky.

A wide "mackerel sky" of rippled, dappled altocumulus clouds fading from white into blue. Along the bottom edge, the silhouettes of evergreen treetops and a boxy building stand in shadow.
