Sunshine

Testing my new camera in the sun.

A small crab lying dead on a beach, seen from above. It is enveloped by seaweed, part of its shell a dull brick red, its legs and claws a pale orange. Around it are smooth grey and granite-flecked pebbles, coarse sand, and broken white shell fragments.

Close-up of a single Queen Anne's lace flower head against a soft green out-of-focus background. The umbel is a dome of tiny white florets tinged pink at the edges, still partly closed, with thin green bracts fanning out beneath it and a slender lime-green stem running down out of frame. One deep purple floret sits at the very centre.

Close-up of a hawthorn branch bearing clusters of ripening haws. The berries range from green through orange to deep red, each with a dark star-shaped crown at its tip, set among lobed green leaves. The branch runs diagonally across the frame against a blurred olive and grey background.

Close-up of thick moss growing along the ridges of tree bark. The moss forms dense cushions in shades of chartreuse and olive, shot through with rust-brown strands, with strips of pale grey-brown bark showing in the shadowed grooves between them.

Sunset over a distant treeline, photographed under a heavy deck of grey cloud. The sun sits just above the horizon in a narrow gap between cloud layers, throwing a burst of amber light across the underside of the clouds. Three radio transmission masts stand in silhouette on the ridge to the right of the sun, with the dark outlines of conifers along the skyline below.
